Henry Charles Bukowski (rođen Heinrich Karl Bukowski; 16. augusta 1920., Andernach – 9. marta 1994., San Pedro, Kalifornija) bio je američki pisac njemačkog podrijetla, a pisao je i romane i kratke priče. Utjecaj na njegovo pisanje potječe od društvenih, kulturnih i ekonomskih okruženja iz njegovog grada, Los Angelesa.[1]Stavljao je naglasak na obične živote siromašnih Amerikanaca, kao i na sam proces pisanja, alkohol, žene i monotonost zaposlenja. Bukowski je napisao tisuću pjesama, stotine kratkih priča kao i šest romana, a preko 60 njegovih knjiga je objavljena. 1986., Time je prozvao Bukowskog "laureatom američkog niskog života".[2] Adam Kirsch je za The New Yorker napisao: "Tajna Bukowskine privlačnosti...je u tome što spaja ispovijest pjesnikove intimnosti sa samopouzdanjem šundnog junaka 'većim-od-života'."[3]
